BROOKLYN DIARIES: Live Art (Part III)

At Harriet's Alter Ego with sexy mamas, Raye6, Betta and friends after painting my ass off live for 5 hours!

ROCK THE BLOCK, Brooklyn August 9th, 2008
ROCK THE BLOCK was the bomb...everybody shined, giving a true representation of the new generation of Brooklyn's underground artists...Raye 6, Good Day Good Night (Print), Theophilus London, Honey LaRochelle, Pesu, Riz22, Fly Lady Di, Sha, Lexi Bella and everyone I didn't get a chance to see made the day unforgettable.

The process....

Fooling around with the ladies, Lexi & Sha

My friend Mike from Yume and the always fresh Miss Sha

Ashley stirs it up

Sallomazing were holding it down the whole day. Al of Minority Report in the background. Big shout goes out to Al, Ashley, Sallomazing who made it all happen.

ALTEREGOBAMA, Brooklyn, August 9, 2008
So after I finished up the work at the ROCK THE BLOCK, I got on the train and headed toward Greenpoint to do a second round of live painting for the Obama fundraiser at Coco66.

Theophilus London & the Lovers were on fiya

HARRIET'S ALTER EGO BACKYARD COUTURE, AUGUST 16, 2008

As you can see, my studio work on the right is quite different from my live art pieces...I like challenges...this 3x5 feet piece was definitely one...I worked on it nearly 5 hours without any breaks in the steamiest show room

The sexy Raye 6 turned up the heat in the already steamy room (was a really hot day). After 4 hours of painting, the lovely Amanda Diva got on the mic too...whew, she's got many talents!

The beautiful ladies of Miss Bruno on the left...keep your eyes peeled for their hot new Fall collection. The Outabodies were in the house too

Nathaniel M. Quinn's dope piece on the left. Amanda Diva's pieces are always fresh...

EYE CANDY Art Show Opening in LOS ANGELES

EYE CANDY COMES IN ALL SHAPES & SIZES

Alright, so I went wild with this new piece I did recently for a group show entitled appropriately EYE CANDY at the Crewest Gallery in Los Angeles. It's called "Kitty Style"(2feetx2feet). This is the first of a series of erotica pieces I started to work on recently. Stay tuned for more coming up in the next months...

The photos are up from the opening exhibit on VINYLPULSE!

Big thanks to Marka, who curated the exhibit and also to the Crewest Gallery who put together a sexy show.

On the left, a dope piece from Biz20's, a talented homie from Boston.

Setting up

Nina Simone Tribute, one of my favorite pieces from my friend Marka27...I'm still trying to work out a swap with this one... On the right, Jesse Hernandez's beautiful piece.

MY HOMIES RULE TOO: Theophilus London

The Brooklyn-born Theophilus London one of the leaders of New York's new underground scene has been making big waves local as well overseas shores.  The first thing that struck me when I saw him perform first was how free Theo was as a poet. He and his band, The Lovers, are doing something fierce...while people might try to force his work into hip-hop, new wave, or other genres, one of most refreshing things about his music is that it is completely out-of-the-box. His partner-in-crime, the man behind the production and mixing is Brooklyn-based producer/DJ Machinedrum in whose melodies you might pick up the influences of Kraftwerk-Joy Division-Prince-Michael Jackson-The Smiths-Clash-electro, soul, electrofunk and hip-hop, but the outcome is one of the most soulful & distinct electronic music I've heard these days. Theophilus pours his heart into his art (which is where real flow comes from) and he's got the aura of a true artist, which comes from being connected with his creativity and feeling free to experiment with it. You can download here his mixtape JAM (link below). My personal favorites are the spacey techno beats softened by sweet female vocals on Future Times, the dark and sexy electro throwback Late Night Operation, and the superfastpaced & cathartic turn-on, Ultraviolet. Love the atmosphere on Ber Ber Der Dant and of course you can never go wrong with Prince (Die for You). D.V.R.C. (=Domestic Violence Resolution Cause..gotta give some extra respect for this one.) This is the JAM!

WHAT DO YOU DO? I'm a Lover and a Musician
WHERE DO YOU CALL IT HOME? Brooklyn, New York
TRUE BEAUTY Is... Understanding and self knowledge
BEATS… make me shake what my father gave me.. Lol
TRUE SEXY IS….a dark innocent desire for love
MUSIC IS MY… souls identity on 3rd and 5th dimensional worlds
ART DOES NOT… deserve to be called art, it should be called LIFE
MY NIGHTS ARE… sleepless and boring (hint)
THESE 3 TURN ME ON… Lips,
SELF-KNOWLEDGE … is the key to our past. We as people are so dumb and brainwashed that we forgot how to do supernatural things, forgot about the wars that took place on mars, forgot how to teleport, forgot how to be immortal, forgot how to travel to different galaxies, forgot that the Egyptians built all the so called new technology we use today, we basically forgot everything. 2012 we will all know the truth.
ENOUGH OF …eating I'm going to become a breatharian
MY CREATIVITY IS… expanding everyday, I Love My Job!
TRUE POWER IS… within the pyamids in Egypt, which holds the worlds source of energy.
LIFE CAN BE THE... Never ending energizer bunny, but it won't because we think death. What ever u think of will come to light. I know a man who is 300 years of age. Do your research
TO LOVE IS TO…highly understand at the highest point. Love is also the worlds biggest magic trick
I'VE GOT FLOW BECAUSE…. I am water
THE WOMAN OF THE FUTURE… should be my unborn daughter

BROOKLYN DIARIES: Live Art (Part II)

My very first live painting piece I did on the left, and a more recent one on the right

July and August were the busiest months ever...lots of painting gigs, moving to another place, and the usual grind. During the live art gigs, I'm loving the energy, the music, and the people who come up to me and express what they think about my lines, but I do miss the solitude of working at home and being able to pay attention to details. Here are some belated pics from the last two months, I got really behind with the documentation.

BROOKLYN HIP-HOP FESTIVAL, Dumbo BK, July 12

Not sure what inspired this Spacemama...I guess sitting under the blazing sun in the heavy BK heat inspires images of space travel and a glowing b-girl in a spacesuit.

Catching KRS-One on the way to the stage...he wanted to put our paintings on the stage, but none of the other painters were around to get them there. next time, I guess...

Girlpower (The painters) on left, the surprise guest of the afterparty, Keith Murray was on fire

On right, Sha is working it. Al of Minority Report hanging with us & the Yume crew at the VIP tent.

The highlight of the day was for me the incredible performance of the Platinum Pied Pipers. Karma, Jamila, Waajeed, Saadiq and Coultrain blew everyone away. With the homies, Dhundee & Jamila after the show. Tarik of Rhythm Lab Radio was in town too.

HIGHLINE BALLROOM with The Real Live Show & Maya Azuzena, NYC July 28th

Stage 1 on left my piece is being sketched out during The Real Live Show, Stage 2 getting some color on while Maya is rocking the mic

My beautiful painter colleagues, Amanda Diva and Marthalicia

Amanda's fresh piece on the right...can't believe she did all that in a few hours

Riz 22 & Pesu are veteran live painters by now

HARRIET'S ALTER EGO, Brooklyn: Backyard Couture
My logo i put up (the heart with the crown) on the communal message wall...i liked how spontaneously the wall just filled up.

DEJAVU KRS-One afterparty at LIBATION, NYC July 24
Man I didn't know what the hell I was doing with this one. My colleague, Lexi started to collab on this but then she kinda abandoned it, so this was a real tough one. It's all good, we always need to be able to face new challenges.
