Full Time Lover by Peter Hadar

My cover illustration for PETER HADAR's sexy new single FULL TIME LOVER, produced by Mike Genato, just dropped! I'm already a fan of Peter, so I was happy when he reached out to me with his concept for the cover, which involved a clock and a nude forming the clock's arms. This was my second try at it.

Peter Hadar captured by TONE. This is one of my favorite of his tunes.

ROOM 777 :: THE MAGIC ROOM presents :::: Johnny Voltik aka the ALPHALOVE

I had a chance to collaborate with my good friend Johnny Voltik aka the Alphalove on his instrumental beat sampler mixtape The Return To Planet Rock. I had this image made already when he showed me some of the tracks and the concept he had in mind, and from then on it was a wrap...I even got my own joint with my name on it. While Johnny is working on finishing his new debut project THE RED ALBUM (which will have a different vibe with killer vocals & more of a psychedelic rock/ hip-hop feel), I'll be working on the cover for it.

JOHNNY VOLTIK aka The AlphaLove 'The Return To Planet Rock'

In the first of his series of instrumental installments, The Return To Planet Rock, JOHNNY VOLTIK aka The AlphaLove takes listeners on a space and time penetrating sonic journey through the cosmos to a seemingly forgotten planet called Rock. First discovered by Afrika Bambaataa and The SoulSonic Force, Planet Rock is the ancient homeland of the treasured tree that birthed the seed of hip-hop and electro and a whole cultural movement that have spread its branches all across Planet Earth. On his Return To Planet Rock, Johnny Voltik sets out to explore hitherto uncharted territories fusing experimental hip-hop, house, electrofunk, breakbeat, trip-hop, afrobeat, and poly-rythmic psychedelica to present listeners with a taste of an entire new blend of sonic frequencies.
&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;a href=""&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;Johnny Voltik Theme by Johnny Voltik&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;g

Johnny Voltik joined forces with close comrade, visual artist Lichiban who provided the quintessential vision of Planet Rock's magic landscape. This 30-track sound odyssey was actually created during the course of several astral travels to the planet and it includes a snippet of Voltik's highly-anticipated The Red Album set to drop in April 2010.
&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;a href=""&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;Lichiban by Johnny Voltik&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;
Voltik explains, “The planet itself is a materialized mass made of pure ether...being there inspires total P.E.A.C.E. (Positive Energy Activating Constant Elevation, The RZA). The whole time I was there, I was high just off of breathing in the was amazing.” Voltik describes the music as “the purest form of my sound, no holds barred, not quantized, whatever came to me while I zoned out during my meditations. The Red Album will be more focused and harnessed with lyrics. This one doesn’t have my lyrics and it is more of an experimental journey through different shades and moods of sound vibrations, so listeners can feel me on many different levels. If you like this just wait for The Red Album which promises to take you to a whole other level of music.”
&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;a href=""&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;Mega-Tronius by Johnny Voltik&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;

FREE DOWNLOAD :: NNEKA x J.PERIOD : Ther Madness (Onye-Ala)

I've just had a chance to get more familiar with this J.Period x Nneka collaboration project that was recently released as a free download. It didn't take much for the German-Nigerian singer/MC to get me completely fall in love with her. Her voice is simultaneously raw and sweet, a quality that makes her so compelling and is one of the most authentic artists I've seen out there (she reminds me of Lauryn Hill in many ways). Most people I know whose opinion I respect have the same instant 'I love her' reaction. I've first seen her in one of the issues of CLAM Magazine a couple of years ago, and my blog partner Sarah was raving about her on our blog Wronglips. She is super inspiring, a voice of love straight from the heart of Africa. I definitely recommend her mixtape and I also suggest to support her by buying her album Concrete Jungle when it drops in a month. Nneka will be on tour in the US in February, 2010 in support of The Madness (Onye-Ala) & Concrete Jungle releases.
The Madness (Onye Ala) is an introduction to Nneka’s new album coming out this February on Yo Mama/Decon/Epic, titled Concrete Jungle. Featuring artists such as M-1 (Dead Prez), Jay Electronica, Zumbi (Zion I), Rakaa (Dilated Peoples), Aceyalone (Freestyle Fellowship), General Steele (Boot Camp Clik) & Talib Kweli.

FROM THE PRESS RELEASE ::"From fury to folly, overwhelming enthusiasm to complete rage – madness is a term used to describe an extreme state or extreme journey, which tends to leave the participant altered, sometimes forever. In an era of political corruption, fast paced technology, and what some may argue as a cultural renaissance, madness is sometimes the term that fits best to describe the state we’re living in today. It is the madness that speaks to our generation, and The Madness (Onye-Ala) that Nneka and J.Period present to the world. Utilizing J.Period’s unique documentary-style approach to the mixtape, The Madness (Onye-Ala) is a collection of new and remixed tracks from Nneka, the Nigerian born singer/songwriter who is quickly making her stamp on the US.A seasoned performer, songwriter and winner of the 2009 MOBO Award, Nneka presents The Madness (Onye-Ala) as an introduction to her first US album, Concrete Jungle in stores February 2, 2010 on Yo Mama/Decon/Epic. The album is collection of tracks detailing her personal experience growing up in Nigeria, the corruption and beauty found there and the universal themes of love, growth, and seeking the ultimate truths. The Madness (Onye-Ala) is a peek into the life and sounds of Nneka, as well as a tribute to the influence Hip Hop has had on her music. Fresh off a featured role in the blockbuster video game, DJ Hero, J.Period presents The Madness (Onye-Ala) as the next chapter in a long line of game-changing mixtapes presented in his unique, storybook style. The acclaimed DJ, Producer & Mixtape King has redefined the mixtape genre with collaborations with the likes of Mary J. Blige, Kanye West, Lauryn Hill, Q-Tip, Talib Kweli, The Roots, Nas, Big Daddy Kane, and others. J.Perid’s most recent work, “The Messengers” (a collection of Fela Kuti, Bob Marley and Bob Dylan remixes featuring K’NAAN), has yielded over 150,000 downloads since its release in September 2009."

THE MOLVANIAN MESSENGER:: ZLAD :: Electronik Supersonic

"Come, let me put ring of jupiter on your finger.
Then, like a smell around you, I will forever linger."

this might earn one of 'the worst lyrics ever' awards, but Borat's Molvanian cousin, space electro freak ZLAD is no joke when it comes to making catchy Italo dance tunes (actually i'm not sure if he's behind the production as well). i saw this video three years ago, when this sound wasn't 'in' yet. it's completely retarded, i love it.

I met Martei through another one of my favorite photographer friends, AMIR EBRAHIMI (whom I also featured here before) last year on a road trip to DC. Throughout the entire trip we talked a lot about him doing music but not so much about photography, which is why I always remembered him as a musician. So when I recently stumbled upon his work, I was completely floored. He is truly adept at making classic, iconic portraits, which is so hard to achieve on a consistent basis. Amazing work!

From his bio: Martei Korley was born in Denmark of Danish-Ghanaian heritage but has called NYC home for the past 14 years. Originally drawn to photography as a means of supporting his music career, Martei Korley quickly developed his sideline into a powerful creative expression and a career in it’s own right. His work is generally portrait driven, but fashion and urban spaces are also regularly visited areas of interest. Over time, his extensive relationships with Jamaican musicians--and proven ability to get shots that are simply impossible for other photographers--has established him as the one of reggae music’s foremost documentarians and as a result he has shot editorials or album packaging for almost every major reggae artist working today. His work has been featured in The Rolling Stones, XLRTR, Riddim, Mass Appeal, FADER, The Source, and TRACE, among others.

i'm feeling...LONE : Summer of Summer

My boy, Craig of Streettalk from London put me on this UK artist LONE a few days ago...coincidentally, LONE's got a very similar sound to BUSY's new EP 'Moths' whose cover I've been working on the last couple of weeks. 'Moths' is super dope, the sound evokes visions of cosmic insects and astral traveling and is along the line of the type of electronic music labels such as Warp and Brainfeeder have been putting out. Stay tuned, I'll post the result when the EP drops next month.

“Haiti today faced a natural disaster of unprecedented proportion, an earthquake unlike anything the country has ever experienced.

The magnitude 7.0 earthquake – and several very strong aftershocks – struck only 10 miles from Port-au-Prince. I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse. The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now.

(AP Photo/Jorge Cruz)
President Obama has already said that the U.S. stands ‘ready to assist’ the Haitian people. The U.S. Military is the only group trained and prepared to offer that assistance immediately. They must do so as soon as possible. The international community must also rise to the occasion and help the Haitian people in every way possible.”

Many people have already reached out to see what they can do right now. We are asking those interested to please do one of two things: Either you can use your cell phone to text “Yele” to 501501, which will automatically donate $5 to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund (it will be charged to your cell phone bill), or you can

iRECOMMEND ...DOZE GREEN :: New Work at Jonathan Levine Gallery, NYC

DOZE GREEN the revolutionary visionary is back with a whole new set of psychedelic works. Doze's body of new work includes a massive multilayered piece entitled Siddharta (right below) which continues to unfold the prophetic vision of his earlier Omega Bridge (you can check out that piece and listen to Doze's mixtape Rubicon Sun I featured earlier here). I had a chance to see the process as Siddharta was coming to genius work that will leave you mesmerized while trying to decode all the hidden symbolic references embedded in it. Doze's signature Heru bird manifests as the center point of the wheel of dharma, the unmoved mover Siddharta, who is like the axis mundi sits in the middle holding the interdimension traveling light-vehicle, the merkaba, while the world is churning around him through cycles of human history. This is a dark but loving vision of the land whose sacredness is symbolized by ancient goddesses facing world-healing mystics as well as faceless sheeples, greed monsters and warmongers can almost feel the wheel turning.

(you can ponder on the significance of the KuKluxKlan character holding James Brown's Sex Machine record...)

New works in the Project Room
Solo Exhibition

January 16th—February 13th, 2010
Opening Reception:
Saturday, January 16th, 7pm—9pm

NEW YORK, NY (January 2, 2009) — Jonathan LeVine Gallery is pleased to present a selection of new works by Doze Green in the gallery's Project Room.

Working in an array of mediums such as ink, gouache, metallic pigments, charcoal and collage, Green’s signature aesthetic creatively combines stylized letterforms and figurative abstraction with fluid continuous line work, resulting in an evolved approach to organic cubism.

Returning for what will be the artist’s third solo exhibition at the gallery, this show will feature a new series of original mixed media works on canvas, watercolors on paper, and black and white contour line paintings on cardboard. The largest work featured in the show entitled Siddhartha, made it’s debut in December of 2009 during Chimera, an exhibition curated by David Hunt as part of the Scope-Miami International contemporary art fair. Siddartha is the companion piece to Green’s earlier Omega Bridge canvas, a collaborative painting created with the Brazilian street artist Fefe Talavera, which measured over thirteen and a half feet wide. The Omega Bridge piece was exhibited in Green’s 2008 solo exhibition N.O.O.N.—No One Observes Nibiru.

Green recently completed a set of two large-scale public murals commissioned by CityCenter in Las Vegas, Nevada. He named the project Crossroads of Humanity. The two murals, which contain multi-figure imagery, occupy the surfaces of 6 conjoined walls (3 walls each). Wrapping around several corners, the total combined wall distance measures 80 feet wide by 20 feet high, per mural.

Jonathan LeVine Gallery is located at 529 West 20th Street, 9th Floor, New York, NY 10011. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11am to 6pm. For more information visit

Shea Rose :: Free Love
this video literally stopped my breath. SHEA ROSE is a goddess.
she was one of my favorite peoples when i used to live in boston for a few years...she is an infinitely talented and infinitely amazing person, and i always knew that it was only a matter of time that the world would be at her feet. when it comes to talent, my intuition never fails, and Shea is one of those people i always saw as a winner who will take it to the top. i just found this footage of her, and as expected, i was completely blown away by this performance when i saw her power on stage. wow!!!! she is completely in charge of the stage and her voice will stop your heart...fucking amazing! she's got the fierceness of BETTY DAVIS combined with the gentleness of SADE, and she is unstoppable. she is definitely one of my top ten artists-to-watch--- i'm very excited to see her takeover this year.
I took this photo of her a few years back. I caught more of her deer-like energy--great contrast with the lioness above.

I know PAN from the back in the days of working with him at TRACE Magazine along side of Sarah White (singer, the other half of WRONGLIPS) two years ago. I always admired his writing skills and his passion for the craft. PAN is a tastemaker with a keen eye for brilliance and new trends..many times I'd think I brought some hidden new gem to the table only to find an interview or review published with those acts under his name already. He is one of my favorite peoples and it was great to see such a well-deserved feature from the lab of PAN's good friend, TONE (NewPOP), whose work I love as well. He is working on a big project to prepare the release of his new publication..but hush, hush I'm not supposed to say much about that yet. Follow him on twitter.

Just saw this inspiring video from Brooklyn fam, Michael Cordero. Michael has been keeping true to the spirit of the artist-activist model, -a type that you've seen in the '50s and '60s more than these days-, making his art a catalyst for change and evolution... something I definitely relate to.

I'm super proud of my friend KESED for being the one selected during a nationwide search for spoken word artists to feature in the 2010 Sprite Slam Dunk commercial. Poet/lyricist/MC/ & winner of 2008 National Poetry Competition, Kesed has performed with the likes of The Last Poets Abiodun, Dead Prez, Kamilah Forbes (producer of Def Poetry), Russell Simmons Def Poets, and Grammy Award Winning group Arrested Development. He is an infinitely talented artist, and now that he has conquered the poetry world, he is on to reaching new heights with his much-anticipated upcoming music project, part of which I had a chance to is one of the five albums that I am most excited about seeing released in 2010. (I also see him later on the movie screen, but that's another story). Kesed is one of my favorite peoples: amazing artist, a true seeker and the most generous person I've ever met. A definite artist to watch.

Check out an earlier K-SWISS ad -another inspiring piece- where he is featured as an artist.
I told him that he outdid Curtis Blow's Sprite (Some people might recall Sprite manage to get Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth and NAS on their ads too back in the 90s)

i'm feeling like summer....PHOENIX & CLASSIXX

I've been missing out on the Grammy-nominated French alternative rock band, Phoenix. Their sound belongs to the family tree of bands such as Air and Daft Punk and have been probably inspirational to more recent acts along the same genre, such as Passion Pit, MGMT, Temper Trap or Animal Collective. This one is one of my favorites. Check out some dope remixes of this song on Phoenix's site and browse through their blog (which gets extra credit for the minimalist design aesthetics).

I discovered CLASSIXX through their remix of Mayer Hawthorne's Green Eyed Love track recently released on Stonesthrow. I had a little OCD listening episode with that track for a few days, so I wanted more & tracked them down. The producer duo's sound is for those who like music that makes them feel good...CLASSIXX screams summer of love. Here is a remix they did for Phoenix's hit Lisztomania.
