Now feat Astrid Suryanto (free download)

KING BRITT's new release 'Intricate Beauty' is apparently the last of its kind as he is finding new directions in more experimental soundscapes. King is one of the most multifaceted producers out there who has been responsible for equally brilliant hip-hop, deep house, electro, or more abstract electronic projects, so I'm excited to see where this new move takes find out more visit SATURN NEVER SLEEPS, a new movement he had started with his muse and fellow sound guru, RUCYL. 'Now' is a classic representing King at his best as a dance music producer.

From the press release: We’ll cut to the chase. Intricate Beauty is the final “conventional” dance album King Britt will ever make. And how fitting this final chapter also marks King’s first ever release on seminal house music label Nervous Records (in partnership with FiveSixMedia). This is the seal of quality. Don’t worry, though, King Britt’s not going anywhere as an artist. He’ll be concentrating on more experimental based music and searching for new avenues to help push the live electronic improvisational end of performance. But for now, you have a real treat to behold with the Intricate Beauty. Eleven tracks of soulful rhythms constructed and mixed together like a grand jigsaw puzzle. Quintessential King.

Intricate Beauty pulls together the different sounds that have helped shape King’s dance DJ mind over the years. This is the story of what he loves to spin and how it all relates. In a sense, this is all the greatness of King Britt wrapped up under one disc. Like a physical incarnation of the intricate mind, the process of how this album was constructed is quite advanced. King based the album on tiny microsounds he procured from various random recordings and CDs. He then took all these tiny pieces and dumped them into Ableton Live where he sewed the puzzle pieces together. Once there were approximately 50 workable combinations of tracks he then constructed the songs musically. “In a few months I intend to release all the bits and pieces from Intricate Beauty as a “Live Pack.” These will be sounds that people can use for inspiration and production,” King says.

Beyond the album, this is a period of great change for King Britt. Not only is he working in a new studio but he’s also cleansed spiritually; something that has also enabled him to enter into a new creative space with his newest venture Saturn Never Sleeps with multimedia artist Rucyl (

“When you find your path and stick with it, you’re bound to hit a pentacle period of productivity. I feel that in the next three years you’ll really see and hear many sides of me musically. Mentally, physically and spiritually I have grown multitudes and have a very clear understanding of who I am and what I’m here for. Many of the lyrics on the album express some of these ideas.”

It’s been 20 years on the music scene for King Britt and his projects, collaborations and affiliations are always truly mind-blowing. From his time as Silkworm in the groundbreaking, Grammy winning Digable Planets, to starting Ovum Recordings with Josh Wink, producing platinum remixes for Macy Gray, Solange, Donna Lewis and hundreds of others, winning the highest grant in the country as the first dj/producer, The Pew Fellowship or starting his empire, FiveSixMedia, King Britt still tries to live in the NOW and not the then.

surrender to uncertainty, while appreciating its intricate beauty" - Deepak Chopra

iRECOMMEND ::: Ramp It Up: Skateboard Culture in Native America, on view at the George Gustav Heye Center, New York

I recently connected with artist Jake Fragua and the two of us had made plans to do a collabo mural. While checking out his website, I found out about this show that he is part of (he is the spokesperson in the video featured below). It is currently on display in NYC, not to be missed!

American Indian Skateboarding Exhibition in New York

An exhibition celebrating the vibrancy, creativity and history of American Indian skateboarding culture is on view at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian in New York, the George Gustav Heye Center.

“Ramp It Up: Skateboard Culture in Native America includes 20 skatedecks, rare images, video of Native skaters and skate decks from Native companies and contemporary artists. The exhibition will close June 27, 2010. One of the most popular sports on Indian reservations, skateboarding has inspired American Indian and Native Hawaiian communities to host skateboard competitions and build skate parks to encourage their youth. Native entrepreneurs own skateboard companies and sponsor community-based skate teams. Native artists and filmmakers, inspired by their skating experiences, credit the sport with teaching them a successful work ethic. Highlights include a never-before-seen 1969 image taken by skateboarding icon, Craig R. Stecyk III, of a skatedeck depicting traditional Native imagery and 1973 home-movie footage of Zephyr surf team members Ricky and Jimmy Tavarez (Gabrielino- Tongva).

The exhibition features the work of visual artists Bunky Echo-Hawk (Yakama/Pawnee), Joe Yazzia (Navajo), Traci Rabbit (Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma) and Dustinn Craig (White Mountain Apache/Navajo) and highlights young Native skaters such as 20-year-old Bryant Chapo (Navajo) and 10-year-old Augustin and 7-year-old Armondo Lerma (Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians).

The Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in New York, the George Gustav
Heye Center is located at One Bowling Green in New York City, across from Battery Park. The museum is free and open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Thursdays until 8 p.m. By subway, the museum may be reached by the 1 to South Ferry, the 4 or 5 to Bowling Green or the R or W to Whitehall Street. For information, call (212) 514-3700 or visit the museum’s Web site at

i love my job...

I love my life and I love being an artist...not always the easiest, but life is never boring and I get to work on some of the funnest or sexiest projects, such as this recent one.

My good friend, Alanzo of The Minority Report has booked me to body paint these two hot mamas for his Superbowl party last weekend at No. 1 Front St (Saints vs Colts). Mardi Gras around the corner, I was psyched to do something festive and sexy for such beautiful subjects. Alanzo always brings out Brooklyn's best-looking people, and this special surprise was a definite crowd-pleaser. You can check out the photos from the party on Al's blog. Big shout out to Al for the gig!

Syncronicity: HOUDINI KUNDALINI :: The Ultimate PrisonBreaker

Wowser...a couple of days ago, I brought up Houdini in a conversation as a joke and then googled him to find out more about him. I had no idea that he was my compatriot (he was born in Budapest, though he lied about it claiming that he was born in Wisconsin). Then I came upon this poster, which had striking similarities to my mural at 5 pointz, Queens I painted back in the summer. Mine is about a different kind of liberation.
