Microkripto [The Space in Between]

Microkripto [The Space in Between] from Alba G. Corral on Vimeo.

A creative and passionate storyteller, Betty not only walks her talk, she dances it. On the soccer field, she would be a striker, leading the way to the goal with the help of her teammates.
She is an award-winning filmmaker, photographer, teaching artist and mom using media as a social tool to celebrate the strength of the human spirit and her love for self-expression. Betty was born in Ecuador and came to the US at the age of nine. Her experiences growing up as an Ecuadorian immigrant in the US helps her relate to a people from all walks of life. She seeks to capture people and environments in flux, where the ever-changing landscapes give way for unique and magical moments to surface, where faith is constantly tested and most satisfied. DreamTown is her latest passion project, keeping her creative energy flowing.

WHAT DO YOU DO? Photographer, Filmmaker, & Teaching Artist
TRUE BEAUTY IS…self-expression & Liberation
BEATS…afro-beats, life-beats
TRUE SEXY IS… hmmmmm
MUSIC IS MY…soul, my healer, mi son :0)
ART DOES NOT…exclude
MY NIGHTS ARE…a peaceful melody
THESE 3 TURN ME ON…courage, confidence, sincerety
SELF-KNOWLEDGE …is empowering
ENOUGH OF …injustice & inequality
TRUE POWER IS…self-determination
TO LOVE IS TO…submit...& LIVE.

DreamTown is a documentary film that explores the lives of Afro-Ecuadorians through the lens of soccer. The project has been featured on NPR and has gotten great press reviews. It is still in production, you can find out more about it on

DreamTown is the inspiring story of three young soccer players chasing success in the face of extraordinary challenges. Entwined with their athletic dreams are the hopes of all Afro-Ecuadorians, for whom soccer is more than a sport but the means to recognition and respect they have long been denied.

DreamTown Trailer from Betty Bastidas on Vimeo.
DreamTown follows the quest of Ulises, Anibal, and Carlos—three players at different stages in their career—as they learn whether the sport they love will bring them a better tomorrow, or if their dream, like so much else in the lives of Afro-Ecuadorians, proves to be just out of reach. In their inspiring determination to reach the elite level of the sport, the three men come to realize that their true goals lay beyond the field. And it may be that the game they’ve devoted their life to is the only thing standing in their way.

FREE DOWNLOAD: Daedelus - Endless Sea (Scion AV)

"Living somewhere in between a honed melody and all out rave, Daedelus takes mystic sounding acoustics and harmonics one step further. To say that Alfred Darlington isn’t a paint-by-number musician would be an understatement. Every track of this release will lead you further down the rabbit hole. And we’re not sure we ever want to find our way out."

Fresh Daily feat. Suede Jury & MeLo-X: SUBMARINE BASS FACE

New video from the homie Fresh Daily, also featuring Suede Jury & MeLo-X.

Music video for the first single from new full length album "Roll & Tumble" by Houston's Jawwaad and NYC producer DJ Kiva. I recently ran into Kiva and had a chance to get the latest updates on his musical projects, one of them being this full length collabo w/ Jawwad.  Like most projects I've heard from Kiva, "Roll & Tumble" showcases his versatility both as a producer and musician, while Jawwad brings a new dimension to his sound. My favorite is the dreamy "Back to My Galaxy".

NY ART: "Deep Space" MATTA, RAMMELLZEE, FUTURA, PHASE 2 art show at Joseph Nahmad Gallery

I had a chance to check out this past Friday the ‘Deep Space’ exhibition opened at the Joseph Nahmad Contemporary Gallery in NYC. A Chilean-born painter who was one of the last original Surrealist artists, Matta's (1911–2002) work was juxtaposed to NY art legends, such as one of my favorites, Rammellzee (1960-2010), Futura & Phase 2 who grew out of 80's graff culture.Great show, I'm glad to be in New York for art moments like this. If you are in the city, it's up until December 12th.

NEW RELEASE: Old Money & Lamin Fofana: ETHIOPIA & b/w NAGA

New release from Old Money fam in collaboration with Dutty Artz. I love about the Old Moneys sound that it's unmistakable, they'd created a unique style, a whole lane for themselves. This is just the beginning of a whole series of projects and releases they're dropping in the near future. This promo description below describes the feel way better than I could.

Old Money & Lamin Fofana collaborate in the first of a series of three releases for an examination of mysteries as articulated through fresh and distinct African Caribbean lenses. Produced in the immigrant hub of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, "Ethiopia” and “Nāga" nods to black secret technology, ancient civilizations, Haile Selassie, and various strands of diasporic influences, all funneled through hard, 4th world electronics. The lush pads and regal horns of “Ethiopia” feels like the sky clearing for an arrival while “Nāga” conjures the esoteric leanings of Wu-Tang and Jay Electronica, the funky house sounds of London, and Nuwaubians selling What Will Happen In Y2K scrolls on Rockaway Parkway circa the mid-nineties.

Old Money & Lamin Fofana: VISITORS

"This mix is titled Visitors. It was inspired and is the byproduct of the innovators and musicians of 1970s and '80s Jamaican dub and reggae. As electronic artists, we view our work, and this mix as a logical extension of the path traveled by groundbreaking producers, musicians, and engineers such as King Tubby, Scientist, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Jackie Mittoo, Horace Andy, and others. If anything, we are only pushing the ideas to extremes."
